"Disappointing "

About: Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

After spending my working life in the NHS I was shocked to see what went on in the A&E dept when I needed their help.

The nurse who took my blood samples, threw one in the bin, then retrieved it.I bled on the towel that my hand was resting on,so she turned it over, ready for the next patient.I got her name from her Badge and that was out of date in 2015.She was a SRN.She spoke to 5 of us sitting in the waiting area, not one of us understood a word she said.I asked a nurse if I could have a drink of water, this was after 5 hours wait. She said yes,but didn’t come back.Another nurse made me a cup of tea after I had been diagnosed with a DVT.I was glad to get out of the place.I have since been back to Ultrasound,no alcohol gel in their dispenser,I told reception, she said she knew!.Then I went to Haematology, wonderful professional people at long last.

I have several more appointments and then I will be contacting PALS as I found the infection controls were not being adhered to,and would worry about being admitted to a hospital with such lax rules.I have worked in Frimley Park and Farnham Hospital, and have never seen such a careless attitude from some of the staff.I have their names and will pass this on to PALS when I speak to them. It’s such a shame that a few spoil it for the rest.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback of your recent experience.

Providing professional care and remaining committed to infection prevention practices in our hospitals is crucial to the care we provide and I am sorry to hear that this was not reflected in your recent experience of our emergency department. I am pleased to hear that your experience of our haematology services was positive, this really does reflect the service we strive to provide to all our patients.

Your feedback has been shared with clinical leads for both departments, but please do contact our customer care team so that we can follow-up with you directly. They can be contacted at customercare@hhft.nhs.uk or 01256 486766.

Kind regards

Alex Whitfield
