"Video call with my grandmother in the trauma ward"

About: Southern Health & Social Care Trust / Virtual Visiting Service

(as a relative),

Last night was the first night I used the virtual call and the call went really well. But tonight I got disconnected for some reason. The signal might have went. But thankfully I was able to ring her and explain. Tonight she is in a private room whereas last night she was on the open ward so maybe that was the issue. It did freeze once as well. I have noticed though if I happen to talk or laugh at the same time as her speaking it cancels her out and then I can't hear her.

Other than that it is a brilliant idea and I'm glad that the service is available during these times as it is so hard not seeing her in person. But it keeps me content seeing and knowing she is ok and getting a good chat face to face on screen. Thank you for this service. Much appreciated. I understand that technology has it glitches, so it has not deterred me from continuing to use this service. Thanks again.

Good afternoon

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience of the new Virtual Visiting Service in Southern Health and Social Services Trust. We recognise how difficult it is for families at the minute with the restricted visiting guidelines in place due to Covid 19. This new service has been established to try to support families and patients during this time and your story just lets us see how the important the service is. I have personally shared this feedback with the Virtual Visiting Team and they are just delighted to receive it.

Regarding the WIFI issues that you experienced during your second visit - I have organised for one of our IT & Comms Officer to look into the issue tomorrow afternoon. We hope that they might be able to suggest a solution. I hope to provide an update for you and thank you so much for highlighting this matter for us - we are always keen to learn how to improve our service if needed.

Best wishes

Kind regards

Mairead

Good afternoon

in relation to my previous response, I just thought that I would provide you with an update. After we received your story we arranged for our IT & Comms Officer to visit the ward and look into the issue of the WIFI. They reviewed the area and feed back to their colleagues. Hopefully the issue has improved for future service users.

Kind regards

Mairead Casey
