"Home physiotherapist treatment"

About: Lanarkshire Community Services / Physiotherapy

(as the patient),

Due to cov19 my classes stopped at Wishaw hospital Feb 2020. Home therapist Becca was sent out in September 2020. Initially I had lost all confidence in my walking with above knee prothesis leg. This girl came to me and first day had restored my confidence by 80%, given exercises to strengthen upper body and stump. Within 4 sessions walking confidently indoors by myself.

Due to dangerous step outside flat not able to go out in crutches. She organised and provided equipment to improve independence in home. NHS wheelchair (I had bought my own one on ebay ) which was not comfortable and developed faults after 11 months. Provided stool for in kitchen so I could prepare my food out of wheelchair. A gripper stick to stop me bending over. A device to grip onto going in and out of bed to safe me throwing myself on bed. These 3 items gave me so much more independence and made life bearable. Finally I got a safe step and today taught how to get out using crutches.

It was like winning the lottery being imprisoned in my flat for 18mths. I cannot thank Becca and services enough for giving me this freedom and lifting my depression and frustrations. Thank you a million times just awesome work everyone does to give me back my life.

Dear lyrarx44

Thank you so much for posting your comments online. First of all I am sorry that the classes had to be cancelled at Wishaw. Unfortunately this was out with our control and was in line with the government guidance at the time. I am however delighted to hear that Becca came out to see you at home and what this has meant to your quality of life.

I hope you continue to get out and about more and your confidence continues to increase. Hopefully this will be a bit easier now we are getting a glimpse of the better weather coming in. Keep up the good work, it sounds like you are doing a great job.

I will ensure your post is sent on to Becca personally.

Thanks again

Claire Rae
