"Terrible!"

About: Hawthorn Medical Centre

My son has recently been diagnosed with Addison Disease. He has been having problems getting someone to teach him how to inject steroids which if needed will save his life. Was told the nurses are not allowed to teach him, only 1 doctor at the surgery is allowed to teach him! Also they was mean't to give him some syringes they only gave him just the needle part! what about the rest of it!? The doctor was going to ring him but my son never received the call. Phoned the surgery to tell them and they said there was no record of the appointment and that he has to ring the next morning and get another telephone appointment. Lets hope my son doesn't have an Adrenal Crisis which can be fatal if he doesn't have the equipment and doesn't know how to inject.

Dear Patient

Thank you for taking the time to visit NHS choices and add your comments. We are sorry that you did not receive the usual high standard of care that Hawthorn likes to offer our patients.

We do have a complaints process which we use as an opportunity to fully investigate problems, respond to patients and where necessary learn from issues that arise. If you would like to make contact with me directly at the surgery I would welcome an opportunity to gather some more information relating to this situation so that I can investigate and respond more fully.

Once again, I apologise for the situation that you found yourself in and would urge you to contact me at the surgery to allow me to investigate further.

Regards

Angela Sundberg
