"My daughter’s addiction"

About: Parent Support Link

(as a service user),

Since the age of 15 my daughter has been addicted to alcohol and drugs and is a self harmer.

She is now 36 with two young children and is 6months clean.

In the last two years her addictions have become life threatening and her children have been under social services.

I have been shrouded in shame and my failure as a parent at times has been insurmountable. Helplessness and ineptitude on my part has left me broken.

At the height of my daughters addiction my daughter in law introduced me to PSL and arranged a meeting for me and my son to see Nicki.

Since then I have not looked back.

Nicki has listened comforted and taught me how to look after myself without ever being judgemental only ever being supportive. She has also run some great courses that I have benefitted from.

Paul from PSL has also run some courses that I have attended and he has been a great support as well

I really don’t know where I would be now if not for PSL

I thank them all from the bottom of my heart.

Dear Mo127,

Thank you for taking the time out and sharing your story with us.

The feelings of shame, failure and helplessness that you have felt over the years must have been life changing for you..... but you have still managed to rally up the strength in all of this to get the help and support needed.

It is great to know that you have received the support you needed from us here at PSL and that you are also accessing our workshop sessions. Please continue to do this as long as you need too.

Remember this is not on you! unfortunately we have no control over other peoples choices whether good or bad, which is even harder to accept when it is someone we love and care for and are having to watch them do this to themselves. But it is out of our control what they are doing.

After so many years of living with this situation your daughter is currently clean which is great news, we wish her all the best and hope she continues on this path forward.

Remember we are here when you need us and you need to recognize the strength within you that you are also trying to live your life and access positive guidance so well done.

Take care and look after yourself and again thank you for sharing with us we really appreciate it.
