"Death of husband"

About: Stepping Hill Hospital

My husband was admitted to cardiology ward 27th december with fluid retention due to heart failure and breathing difficulties he was in ward for a week where we thought he would be kept safe from covid vrus as we had kept him safe at home since march then he caught covid in ward which should not have happened and was moved to a covid ward where he was looked after so well but his body couldnt cope and sadly passed away im just so upset that we thought in a cardiology ward he would be kept safe but since ive learnt that staff are being swapped to other wards to help out so will pass on viruses they pick up from a devastated family

I am so sorry for your loss and thank you for raising your concerns.

Please be assured we are investigating all patients who have a positive swab within our wards who could have potentially contracted this in hospital to ensure we understand what occurred and to act on lessons learned. If lapses in care are identified in relation to the cause of the acquisition of COVID-19 you will be informed of the findings of the investigation.

Within the wards all precautions are taken to prevent the spread of COVID-19 with social distancing and strict Personal Protective Equipment as per Public Health England advice. Audits for hand hygiene and Infection control precautions are monitored monthly in each individual ward areas. With regard to staff movement, we are very careful not to move staff within a shift, however they would shower and change if moved from a ward with a higher risk. Most of our staff are tested twice a week to ensure they do not attend work with a risk of having COVID-19 to reduce the spread too.

I too would like to extend my condolences to yourself and those who knew your husband. And if you would like further information or to discuss the care of your husband during his admission please do not hesitate to contact myself.

Kind regards,

Lizzi Moussa
