"Heart problems."

About: The Ulster Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

Sent to A&E twice by Doctors surgery with chest pains.  Waited 11hours and had tests done.    In the end had to go home after waiting the final 3 hours “ because they had no cardiac Doctors present”.  Second time waited 5 hours and sent home to see my own Doctor as he would know more about me, but it was him sent me in the first place.

Both times in Ulster Hospital ,Belfast.  Totally no confidence in this Hospital.

Hi Billnic

Thank you for telling us of your experience while attending the Emergency Department in the Ulster Hospital. I am sorry to hear it wasn't as you expected. It would not be uncommon for patients to be referred back to their GP if there is nothing acute found at their visit to the Emergency Department for further follow up. There are no cardiac doctors based in the Emergency Department however they will attend the department following referrals from the Emergency Department Team. The Cardiac doctors do provide cover to the whole hospital so it can take a period of time to have your review.

Regards

Jenny

Interim Lead Nurse ED
