I just wanted to take the time to write (and hope this gets communicated to the AMH team & staff) on what an absolutely first class service we received on the birth of our first child.
I am a medical professional in the community, and appreciate first hand how tough it is working at the coal face and the pressures on services and staff - particularly with the additional challenges of Covid and lockdown. However, despite all of this the care and attention we received from my community midwife, staff on Westburn, Ashgrove wards, Midwife unit and Theatres, Recovery, Newborn Hearing screener, Paediatric baby check team, Infant Feeding Team and Health Visiting team is/was exceptional. Everyone we have encountered has done so with a smile and the utmost professionalism. Nothing has been too much bother and I feel genuine empathy and care radiates from the staff. We have felt so supported and empowered to make the right decisions for our situation guided by very knowledgeable staff.
Obviously every first time mum to be has a natural level of trepidation and anxiety, I can 100% look back on the experience as extremely positive. I hadn't ever experienced the NHS as a patient before; it has made me so proud to say I am a NHS worker and I can not sing the praises of my colleagues highly enough.
As a patient it makes me realise HOW important all the "little" interactions we have are to contributing to our experience. A particular emphasis on the AMH workers ( 2 cleaners and a senior midwife) who were not part of our immediate care team but who all took the time to stop, and offer help when I was walking with a new baby out of the hospital. This attitude makes the world of difference.
Not all heroes wear capes :) - keep up the good work team!!
