"Blue Skies Fund Raising Department "

About: Blackpool Victoria Hospital

My uncle died and left a £10K legacy to the Cardiac Department at VHB due to the excellent care and treatment he received following a heart attack - this was 5 years ago - I never had an acknowledgement of this donation from any department or the hospital......??? I had to query whether or not they had actually received via the solicitors handling his estate..... eventually got a phone call .....

Last month a very close friend died of Alzheimers and I made a £20.00 donation in her memory - today, I have received a card thanking me for this donation and a research brochure explaining where my donation will be used ......

Mmmmm - take note VHB - you need to acknowledge any gift from any source regardless. Due to your lack of response, I would hesitate to leave anything to VHB and have subsequently passed the above lack of acknowledgement to friends and family...

Thank you for telling us about your experience. We would like to look into this individual situation and would be grateful if you could share more details to us at bfwh.patientrelations@nhs.net such as the name of the deceased, which Solicitor it came from and the date the donation was made.

Generally when receiving legacies, we would only deal with Solicitors not the relatives of the deceased. We acknowledge the legacy with the Solicitor once it has arrived with us and explain how it has been used. We do not receive details about the deceased relatives, such as names or addresses, which means we are therefore unable to send an acknowledgement to any relative unless we are specifically asked to do this by the solicitor.

With regard to other donations received, we will always send a thank you letter or a card, provided we have a name and address of the donor. We are extremely grateful for each and every donation we receive and we ensure that this is conveyed to anyone who is kind enough to donate money to our charity. Being a small charity, all donations make a difference to enhancing the patient care received within the Trust.

Many thanks

Eleanor
