"Suffolk Ward - the best of the best!"

Suffolk Ward is a shining example of the NHS getting it 100% right. Our beloved relative arrived there lost and broken, and her brilliant Psychiatrist, aided by a team of 24-hour angels, handed her back to us whole and happy again.

The kindness they showed her - and us - was incredible. Covid times means no visitors, but we were able to Zoom her and to drop off packages which were passed on INSTANTLY, and whenever we called, the nurses were friendly and helpful. (Patients are allowed their own phones, which was a huge relief).

We felt involved in the process throughout, were really listened to, and any questions about her treatment were answered quickly and with all the reassurance and information we needed.

Our relative kept telling us how kind everyone was, and we were impressed with the "extras", like activities in the communal area, kitchen access to snacks, and hot chocolate before bed!

We were also impressed with staff awareness and responsiveness - patients are checked on every 15 minutes, and 24-hour watch is immediately activated if necessary. Our relative was kept so, so safe...

ECT was recommended as a highly effective treatment for her, and we were wary ("One flew over the cuckoo's nest"?!) but were sent excellent up-to-date information, and had a long phone call with the compassionate Consultant who would be carrying it out. (Nowadays its quick, easy and pain-free, and we are SO grateful that it was offered and given).

This was our first experience of a Psych Ward, and a real learning curve, but we are filled with gratitude to everyone there that helped our miracle happen :)
