My consultant has stated that I need to have 3 monthly blood tests to monitor my condition. When I tried to arrange a blood test with the surgery I was told that all blood tests have been cancelled by the surgery until the COVID crisis is over. The same occurred last March but the lead doctor stated a few months later that services had never been cancelled. As a result I was able to get blood tests in June and September via the surgery. Assuming this was again a mis-communication (I realise everyone is under pressure) I contacted the surgery again. I was told by a different receptionist that blood tests were cancelled across the NHS, including the local hospital, and would remain so until the current crisis was over. I have contacted the hospital department where I am being monitored and they have told me to just drop into the blood clinic there and I should be able to get the test sorted.
I don't think I'll bother trying to get blood tests at the surgery in future, but I am a little concerned about visiting the hospital due to the high COVID numbers there.
