I gave birth to my son at Peterhead Maternity Hospital early January 2021 and the whole experience from start to finish was fantastic.
Arrived at the hospital in the morning with a lovely warm welcome from the midwives. Was taken through for initial observations and an examination which showed I was 10cm dilated.
Got taken straight through to the labour room where the birthing pool was already filled waiting on me. Got help from the midwives to undress to the degree I wanted and was helped into the pool. I was left to decide what positions I wanted to labour in and whether I wanted any pain relief. The midwives were constantly giving words of encouragement and praise which was wonderful and definitely helped!
I was kept up-to-date with the progress of things and around an hour after getting into the pool my 9lbs2 son was born. He took a littler longer to cry than normal due to being in shock, but the midwives kept me calm and talked to me the entire time we were trying to get him breathing.
Every step of the way I was reassured and helped by the amazing staff; including getting stitched up, showering and my baby's initial check.
We were left to enjoy the golden hour, with the midwives popping in and out as they tidied up which allowed us to ask any questions that we had.
In the postnatal room, again we were pretty much left to get on with things and were told to buzz any time we needed help or even a cup of tea!
After 2 wonderful births at Peterhead Maternity, it's safe to say I would definitely recommend to anyone considering giving birth here. It's a fantastic experience and you're treated like a person rather than a number. Everyone knows your situation and they're more than willing to help with anything they can.
I loved my time here and if I were ever to have any more children I wouldn't even consider birthing anywhere else.
