"Family Liaison Service during Covid-19 pandemic"

About: Northern Health & Social Care Trust / Family Liaison service

(as a relative),

Following admission of my father to a NHSCT hospital , I was nominated family contact.

I was contacted by the Family Liaison service to be given daily update on my father's medical progress.  I was provided with a unique passcode which I would give to member of staff when contacted and this reassured me that it was very confidential and confirmed  that staff member was speaking to the right person.

The Family Liaison member of staff was given an update from the nursing staff on ward and relayed this information to me.  This ensured that nursing staff were not interrupted from giving care to patients to answer telephone calls.

Dear covid 19,

My name is Orla and I oversee the roll out of the Family Liaison Service across the Trust.

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave feedback about this new service. We have recognised the anxieties felt by both families and patients during this difficult time. The service is made up of staff who have volunteered for this role. It's a credit to their dedication to support families and patients whilst visiting restrictions are in place due to the ongoing pandemic. It ensures that families are kept updated about their loved ones treatment and condition whilst allowing the nursing staff to dedicate their time to direct patient care.

I have shared this with the team and they are delighted with the feedback.

Best Wishes,

Orla
