"Lack of communication over test results"

About: General practices in Greater Glasgow & Clyde

(as the patient),

I have recurrent UTI's due to a complex health condition which results in using intermittent catheters.

Ive had a lot of issues with my doctors surgery testing the sample at the surgery and not sending it to the lab for further investigation, with 2 occasions the sample got lost.

The final straw for me is I have been suffering with UTI since November and have not been medicated. I handed in my final sample just before Xmas and phoned to check on results just before New Year on a few occasions to be told the results were not back yet.

I then contacted them the other day as I was not feeling well and was informed that on the 23rd December the GP dipped the urine sample, it was positive and there was antibiotics left in the pharmacy for me. No-one had contacted me to tell me that I did indeed have an infection or that there was treatment sitting for over 2 weeks for me.

Dear Scokel 78

Thank you for getting in touch via Care Opinion. I am very sorry to hear about the on-going issues you are having with your samples and not being informed of your test result or that your medication was ready to collect.

As GP's are independent contractors with a separate feedback and complaints procedure I would suggest that you contact the Practice Manager to discuss the issues you have raised. However, if you don’t feel comfortable doing this, I can forward your feedback onto your GP surgery's practice manager on your behalf. If you could get in touch with me on PatientExperience@ggc.scot.nhs.uk with the name of the practice, and contact information that you would be happy for the GP surgery to reach you on.

Kind Regards

Nicole
