I was sent to St Johns hospital unit to give birth, as Edinburgh hospital was full. I had written in my birthplan No Epidural, No morphine but as I arrived one of the first question I met was if I want morphine. By then I was so tired and exhausted, that I have asked what to do, I simply couldn't make this decision. I knew I didn't want it but they have convinced me by saying that the labour will still be few good hours and that I need a rest. Morphine would make me fall asleep. Going with that, being already exhausted after 24h labour at home, I gave up and I took it and later I took a second dose.
I regret this to this date, as it stopped my contractions, and I had to be put on Oxitosin drip. I believe if they had cared for my wishes and stuck to the plan - rather than offer Morphine, helped by encouraging me and believing in me I would have done it naturally.
I had 3 different midwives during my birth, they offered no real support but just checking the vitals and telling me to push.
After my daughter was delivered, told me to go and take a shower- on my own!
I believe midwives are greater than what I have experienced and I should have had better treatment and help during this difficult time.
