"People Not Wearing Masks Properly "

About: Northwick Park Hospital

The hospital is being let down by a large number of patients and staff either not wearing face coverings or wearing them under their nose or chin. I have seen many patients especially the Phlebotomy waiting area not social distancing and wearing their masks under their noses or chin. This is putting other patients and the Phlebotomists at risk of Covid 19. In addition many staff use the link corridor to have conversations or to make phone calls which block the one way system making it difficult to pass and to social distance this is despite the markings on the floor. Please can the hospital ask people to wear their masks correctly. I have asked other patients to wear their masks properly only to be met with verbal abuse or just ignored. Patients need to feel safe when they visit the hospital and are being let down by people who don’t think that Covid 19 exists. Many patients put their mask under their nose or chin as soon as they get into the hospital.

Dear Sir/Madam

Thank you for your feedback about your recent visit to Northwick Park Hospital. I am sorry for the impression you have been left with about our commitment to managing the virus.

It was disappointing to hear that you witnessed some patients not wearing the masks as they should, and that the staff you encountered did not seem share your concerns about this.

All of our staff are aware of the importance and the necessity in wearing masks. There are occasions when some staff may not feel comfortable in challenging others, whether staff or patients, and we are working on producing posters and literature reassuring all that it is OK to ask anyone not wearing a mask, or not wearing a mask correctly, to do so.

We do not ask each visitor to our sites about the nature of their visit. However each main entrance to all of our sites are manned by staff who temperature check everyone entering the building and provide hand sanitiser and masks to those that require them.

I am sorry again for the concern you were caused during your appointment in the Phlebotomy department. Please be assured that your feedback has also been shared with the General Manager for this area so that it can be used to encourage staff to request that everyone complies with the guidelines for mask wearing and social distancing.

Kind regards

Anjali Patel
