During 2020 my health anxiety peaked due to pandemic and after losing a loved one I couldn't keep it together. I was scared to go out, of any of my family going out. I was referred to inclusion where I felt understood. So many times I would realise over and over that my thoughts and feelings are ok. My therapy was CBT and even though I still go through the motions especially as the virus us picking up again I strongly feel that if I hadn't been referred I would be worse mentally. It's not easy but absolutely helped talking to someone else and looking at things differently.

Dear lorna40,

Thank you for sharing your experiences of CBT with us. Health anxiety is a particularly difficult experience itself, made even more difficult by what is going on at the moment.

When we experience health anxiety, feeling as though we are not understood is very common. We may compare our anxiety to others' and feel it is totally excessive, that because of this our friends or family will not understand and this can be very isolating.

It's wonderful to hear that CBT offered you an understanding that these thoughts and feelings, whilst uncomfortable, are perfectly okay. I am sure you have learned techniques for managing these experiences which, as you say, have helped you to improve your situation.

Often when managing anxiety, our brain may need some time to learn that the things we fear may be unlikely, or less frightening than we first thought. I hope that, by taking the time to continue using the techniques you have learned with us, you are able to achieve this for the future and to keep seeing the improvements you are now!
