Had to have a colonoscopy at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary in mid-December 2020. I was nervous due to both the procedure and the fact we were in the middle of a covid 19 pandemic.
After having a covid 19 test 3 days prior l duly arrived at the ward and was immediately put at ease by the friendly receptionist who booked me in. A few minutes later a lovely cheerful nurse came and got me and we went through all the necessary forms that needed to be completed and was told that l could be sedated or use gas and air for the procedure. I decided on neither which the doctor doing the procedure allowed me to do.
Went through to the theatre and was met by two cheery nurses that immediately made me feel at ease. They stayed with me for the whole procedure, which at times is quite uncomfortable and constantly reassured me l was doing great.
Was transferred through to the recovery ward, where yet another lovely nurse made sure l was comfortable and made me the best cup of tea l had had in a long time! I even got a choice of what biscuits l would like.
I have nothing but praise for the way l was looked after, the NHS are still in my opinion the best service you could ever ask for, from the moment l arrived until the moment l left, l was treated like royalty. We should all be proud of our NHS and everyone that works for it.
