"Great birth experience"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Maternity Care (Wards 21-24)

(as the patient),

Just a short message to say thank you to all the staff who cared for me when I gave birth to my second son in November. Every member of staff I dealt with was helpful and caring, nothing was a bother to them. Particular thanks to my midwife and the student midwife who delivered my baby and ensured it was a calm and controlled delivery. I'm lucky that it was quick and smooth and I didn't even require stitches. Despite covid the hospital felt very safe and my husband was with me, the lack of visitors wasn't a problem as it meant could spend uninterrupted time with my baby. We ended up in for a few nights as baby required phototherapy and we were moved to a huge single room, it was great!

My attempt at bf failed for a variety of reasons and it's maybe not fair to compare but when my other son was in neonatal last year for a period of time I felt the support was better. Having said that there were a few fab ladies who did try help me during the first night with hand expressing. But it's a busy place so I can understand the infant feeding support might not be the same as when dealing with a premature baby. I came to my own decision to move to formula so not trying to allocate blame as I was desperate to get home!

Special thanks also to my community midwife who was a pleasure to deal with throughout. Thank you all so much I could not have asked for a better delivery, antenatal and hospital experience.

Dear s-ferg

Firstly many congratulations on the birth of your second son. Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your experience of antenatal, hospital and community midwifery supports. I am delighted you had a positive birth experience.

I am sorry that your experience of infant feeding support wasn't as positive as it had been with your first son.

It would be helpful if you could contact my Patient Affairs colleagues so that we can understand the issues in more detail, so that your feedback can be used with staff to review practice to avoid this happening in the future.

You can contact them PatientAffairs.Wishawshire.scot.nhs.uk or Tel No: 01698 366558.

Kind regards,
