"Safe and confident"

About: Royal Bournemouth Hospital

Attended for Bronchoscopy. COVID precautions well in evidence in all areas. Quite a long wait from admission ,but department seemed very busy. When my time arrived,my apprehension increased. However the nurses who collected me were very friendly and escorted me to the procedure room and settled me in.

There were five medical staff present to whom I was introduced.

After all necessary checks were made I felt safe knowing they were prepared for any eventuality. After a hiccup with a faulty cannula, things were finally underway. I cannot really recommend the banana anaesthetic spray, but it had to be done! My thanks to the lovely nurse who mopped up my tears! I managed to relax a bit with the help of sedation, and it was all over in 10 minutes!

During the procedure I was constantly reassured and made as comfortable as possible.

I had complete confidence in all the team and made a quick recovery.

Many thanks for all your hard work and professionalism in what must be a terrible time to be on the front- line.

Dear Sue

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us.

Coming in to hospital can be a worrying time for many people, never more so than during these troubling times of a Covid pandemic when people’s anxieties are further heightened.

This makes your feedback very encouraging when you highlight how evident the precautions are that we have in place around the hospital and also how the staff were able to settle you in before your procedure.

It is always nice to feel a connection with the people around you and a simple introduction can go a long way to break down barriers and make people feel comfortable, so it is nice to hear that you were introduced to the 5 staff involved in your procedure and that they made you feel confident and safe in their care.

We are pleased to hear that despite a small hiccup the procedure went well and you made a quick recovery and I know the team will be pleased to receive your kind comments.

Regards

Patient Experience Team
