"Very understanding and reassuring."

About: Lincoln County Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I went to see the Consultant Colposcopy (Miss. Harper) recently for a a lump I have noted for few weeks. I was overwhelmed to see 4 people in the room. However, the consultant Dr Harper has been very understanding and there was a registrar there and she decided she would not join the examination as I was really nervous about it and didn't like many people staring at me, at least I didn't feel comfortable. The two nurses were their to comfort me. At the end of the examination Dr Harper took her time to explain exactly what my problem was, she jotted it all down on a piece of paper, as I have explained that I am into research and she understood that I would want to read about the procedure she will have to carry out on me in the next coming few weeks.

She has been lovely and reassuring, and I was satisfied by the service and how she has dealt with someone who was worried, specially that I arrived there alone to find 4 people in a room which wasn't expected.

Dear Scorpiusmc55,

Thank you for taking the time to comment on your recent Colposcopy appointment.

I am so pleased to hear you were satisfied with the service you received. You had clear explanations and were reassured by Miss Harper and the nursing staff at your appointment. We aim to deliver patient centred care and it is lovely to know when we have achieved this.

I am aware it can be daunting with 4 people in a clinical room, by national guidelines every colposcopist must have a trained nurse and a health care support worker in the room with the patient.

Usually we would ask you if you minded having the Registrar attend before you enter the room. If you declined, they would remove themselves prior to you entering to save any embarrassment. I sincerely apologise that this does not appear to have happened at your appointment. Please be assured I will remind staff of this process.

Thank you once again for your comments, I will share them with Miss Harper and the team

I am really pleased to see that you review peoples comments and action them. My message haven't been clear, but I want to reassure you that when the team sensed that I am anxious, the registrar decided not to be there and have left the room. I was actually quite disappointed of myself to have been that anxious and apologised but they have all been very understanding and accommodating. Please note that, I just wanted to explain the experience and how they have taken into consideration that I was anxious and decided that it will be the two nurses and the consultant to be with me. They have all been so lovely.

Thank you for your care.
