About: Dewsbury & District Hospital

Appreciate times we are in but can’t visit relatives in hospital however this ward could improve their communication with relatives by keeping them up to date & at the very least answer their phone! Attempts made on a number of occasions to get no response... very poor relative focus.

Thank you for taking the time to post your feedback regarding your recent experiences.

It is disappointing to read of the events that you have experienced on Ward 8. I can only imagine the unnecessary distress this will have caused you and for that I am sincerely sorry.

I can only imagine how worrying it must have been for you to continually telephone the ward and it not be answered. Staff fully appreciate how restricted visiting regulations has had a significant impact on relatives not being able to see their loved ones and receive updates on their condition and treatment. This also places an increasing pressure on ward staff who do not always have the resource to ensure that effective communications are in place. As a result, the Trust has a number of Family Liaison Officers in post and a key function of this role is to support clinical staff in ensuring effective communication of information between patients and their relatives. Regrettably, there is only a small pool of those roles within the Trust however, we are in the process of looking to redeploy staff into these roles.
