"I went over my foot"

About: Perth Royal Infirmary / Accident & Emergency

(as a service user),

Went to A&E as I went over on my foot earlier in the day and to get it checked.

When I got to reception the staff member was great and did ask if I could have a mask on for Covid19. Said I was exempt from wearing a mask end of question, in fact we had a wee joke about it. Everything done to a very high standard.

Went to waiting area and after 10-15mins I was called by  Nurse(No Mask On) , at this point everything went down hill fast, The first thing I was asked if I should have a mask on. Tried to explain that I was exempt, The Nurse started talking to me like I was lying about it. I then was asked to explain myself as to why I was exempt. But not to stop there I was told in a manner that I should have booked an appointment before coming to A&E. The Nurse went on about a booking system that I should have used which had only went live last week. Not to top that when they said I would get seen tonight, it was said In a format like they were doing me a special favour.

Went back to the waiting area and then got called by a doctor and can say they were fantastic in their approach in checking my foot out. Made my feel so much better. Sent for a x-ray and again all staff in that department was great and very professional never once did they ask about mask.

Then back to A&E and again the doctor was great and explained to me the x-ray and what I should do over the coming days.

A big 5 star for Receptionist, Doctor and X-ray department.  Thank you to all of them

Dear The Ballroom

Thank you for taking the time to feedback on your recent experience when you attended the Emergency Department, PRI.

Whilst I am pleased to read that you were happy with the treatment you received from our reception, medical and radiology teams, I am obviously disappointed to read about your experience with one of our nursing team.

Patients are now able to contact NHS24 prior to attending the Emergency Department for urgent problems and in doing so we may be able to offer you a scheduled time to attend the department for assessment. Patients are however still able to attend the department directly for assessment, as you did.

Please accept my apologies on behalf of the ED team for your negative experience and please be assured that your feedback will be shared with the wider ED nursing team
