"Occupational Therapy by phone"

About: Lanarkshire Community Services / Occupational Therapy

(as a service user),

I was referred to Wellhall Medical Practice’s Occupational Therapy service for my anxiety. I received appointments via the phone due to COVID restrictions with an OT, Conor. This lasted for around 2 months.

Conor was really lovely and helpful - he provided me with techniques to manage my anxiety and genuinely listened to me. He also provided me with resources to refer to after sessions. It felt good for someone to understand my anxiety and respond in such a helpful manner. Conor asked me to score factors relating to my anxiety and wellbeing at the beginning of these sessions starting and by the end when I was finished them - there was a marked improvement in how I manage anxiety and how I felt.

The only thing that I feel would improve this service would be for it to be over video call rather than a telephone call - I feel this would make it more personal and easier to engage with.

Dear giraffege94,

Many thanks for sharing your experience of engaging with Primary Care Occupational Therapy.

I am pleased to read that you felt well supported by Connor and have found ways manage your feelings of anxiety. I will make sure to share this feedback with Connor. He will be delighted to hear you felt listened to and understood.

I have taken note of your suggestion regarding video consultation. We very much appreciate your feedback and suggestions for improvement. This is something we can and will act upon to improve our service. I plan to discuss this further with our staff team and consider how we ensure this is routinely offered to those accessing our service.

May I take this opportunity to wish you well,

Amanda

Dear giraffege94

Thank you for your feedback and your suggestion regarding video consultation.

We do have the capacity to complete video consultations. Often we make the initial consultation via telephone and then can offer to continue with either telephone, video or where the situation allows, face to face consultations.

The method of consultation is normally a result of a number of factors being considered, with particular consideration being given to the person's preferred mode of contact.

Your feedback has enabled the Primary Care Occupational Therapy Service to reflect on our procedures to ensure that we regularly review these choices with people engaging with our service, as preferences may change as the sessions progress.

I'd like to thank you for bringing this to our attention and I am pleased to assure you that this has helped us in reviewing our service delivery and make changes that will benefit people using our service in the future.

Many thanks

Shonaid
