"Painful colonoscopy"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Gastroenterology

(as a service user),

I attended the hospital for a colonoscopy yesterday and it was generally very good. The nurse was excellent she became my advocate as I had a problem with the consultant not listening to me which made the pre operation treatment quite difficult for me. This nurse supported me, and she spoke with the consultant which was helpful and reassuring. The staff were nice and given the nature of the procedure generally it was a good experience. However, I feel I wasn’t given anywhere enough sedative or painkillers. I am originally from America and this is the seventh procedure of this type I had undergone and I have to say I have never felt pain like this before. I think there needs to be a review of this, there is no need for the procedure to be that painful.
