"Lack of Wifi"

About: Lorn & Islands Hospital / General Surgery

(as the patient),

I recently spent 10 days in hospital to remove my gallbladder which unfortunately couldn't be removed by keyhole surgery. I was very well looked after by professional nurses and an amazing surgical team.

The only major issue I had which I was not expecting was the complete lack of WiFi in my ward which I feel is a basic need when in hospital in order to connect with worried loved ones. I had a few very low days and being able to connect to the world would have made a huge positive difference mentally to my recovery. I was not the only one who was suffering from the lack of connectivity as there were many of us isolated from the world in this covid age of restricted visits.

Dear airyp86

Please accept my apologies for the delay in responding.

I hope you are making a good recovery from your surgery. Good to hear that you felt well looked after by the clinical team at Lorn and Islands Hospital.

I am sorry about the lack of Wi-Fi. I can appreciate that this must have been very frustrating for you.

I am advised that a contract is expected to be agreed in January and thereafter arrangements will be made to install Wi-Fi in all NHS Highland hospitals. As you say, it is really important for patients to be able to keep in touch with loved ones. I am sorry that this was not available to you during your stay.

Kindest regards and wishing you well for 2021.
