"I was over-contracting"

About: Maternity care / Delivery suite

(as the patient),

Was brought in to have an induction. Had pessary late afternoon. A few hours later I felt something wasn’t right so told a nurse who told me someone would be in shortly.

Half an hour of worrying later and after they had eaten a meal this nurse appeared in my room. They examined me and told me they could give me 2 painkillers. They didn't seem concerned that I knew something was wrong.

They also said they would administer an epidural if I was 1cm dilated. If they had read my notes they would have known I didn’t want an epidural! They also didn’t record what happened in my notes!

Thankfully the senior house officer on duty spotted I was over-contracting and the pessary was removed. On a positive note the midwives in the delivery suite were fantastic.
