A little under 8 weeks ago I suffered a placental abruption 30 weeks into my pregnancy, unfortunately our baby boy Flynn didn’t survive and I barely made it through myself as I had a huge clot and lost a lot of blood.
If it wasn’t for the care and love I received from the midwives at the Ulster Hospital I don’t think I would be here today. Especially Cathy who kept me smiling and made me laugh but held my hand when I needed to cry and helped me through the hardest day of life.
The aftercare I had from the Community Midwives at the Hollywood Arches was a cut above the rest, Nicola and Romi were at my beck and call even if I just needed someone to talk to, I looked forward to their visits even though the circumstances were not the best. A week post op I was suffering high blood pressure and migraines, Nicola came to see me and she was fully prepared for me to need to go back to hospital, she had already called the E.P.U and asked them to prepare a room away from the wards so she could just bring me through the back and straight up to the room without having to see any babies or pregnant women. Thankfully I was able to stay home but she called me every day to make sure I was ok.
The dedication, care and love these women put into their work is truly unbelievable. If it wasn’t for these midwives I would have struggled to come to terms with the loss of my son!! They deserve a medal and I will always be grateful to them for everything they did for me and my family.
