About: Lagan Valley Hospital / Mental Health Services for Older People (Ward 11)

(as a staff member posting for a carer/relative),

Due to Covid restrictions I have not had a great experience. I know this is not a fault of the staff.

My partner was admitted for a period of time and visiting is restricted to one hour a week. I find this very hard.

When I do visit the staff are great. They are in full PPE and have the room cleaned down before I arrive. The room is also cleaned after I leave. I feel safe when I am there.

Only negative comments I would have are sometimes I would be updated by my partner before being informed by the Ward. I would like information from the Ward sooner as often due to my partners condition stories can conflict. Also on one occasion I had asked to speak to a doctor but did not receive a call.

Overall a reasonable experience.

Dear covidrestrictions

Thank you for sharing your expeirence.

We fully acknowledge that visiting restrictions due to Covid gives our patients and families less time together and are working to support in this regard. We have started virtual visiting and seek to expand across the Trust. Please ask in Ward 11 as to access to this support.

It is important that our families have timely updates of their loved ones' treatment and care. This is a priority that our ward leadership focus on and that I will take more widely across our wards - to include the return of calls as you have pointed out.

It is great to hear that you find care to be good when you visit. It is so importnat to us that our patients and families are in receipt of the high quality care and experience.
