For over two years I've been struggling to walk, move around or carry out any tasks due to a narrowed aorta which severely restricted the blood supply to my legs. After being wrongly referred by a private vascular consultant to be treated by physiotherapy in 2018 I eventually had the correct scans/investigation by the NHS in February 2020. Then the pandemic hit and delayed any procedures to get me sorted.
In November 2020 I went into The Royal London Hospital for Mr Flora's (vascular surgeon) team to attempt to place a stent into my aorta to restore the blood flow to my legs.
I walked into the operating theatre and was greeted by about 30 operatives. I was really overwhelmed to see that so many people were there to try to help me.
Much to my relief there were no complications. There must have been so much care and attention. A stent was successfully fitted. I had no discomfort or pain. I am so grateful to the team for all their training, dedication and ability. An absolute miracle!
The skin on my legs and feet has changed from dark purple to a lovely healthy colour and I am able to walk again. They have given me my life back. No words can express my appreciation.
I was put on a monitoring ward where I was welcomed by a totally fantastic team of nurses who took such great care of me. A truly amazing and competent group of professionals who showed compassion, capability and good humour. Nothing was too much trouble. They really made up for no visitors being allowed.
Absolutely everyone involved in my treatment and care, from the transport drivers, cleaners, nurses to the operating team was fantastic. I wish there was a way to reward and thank them.
