"Out of hours visit"

About: NHS 24 / NHS 24 (111 service) Victoria Hospital / Admissions Unit 2 (Emergency Surgical) Victoria Hospital / Out of Hours

(as a service user),

I was sent to hospital by NHS24 to have a groin abscess checked. Being 25 weeks pregnant I was very anxious and concerned and in a lot of pain. From NHS24 to the out of hours GP to the surgeon and nurses in the Admissions unit 2 I was looked after brilliantly.  The speed of being seen was amazing and although I had to undergo a painful drainage of the abscess I was in and out within 4 hours, feeling such a relief that myself and baby were going to be fine!!

Special thanks to Richard the surgeon and the two nurses Jenna and Anne who took excellent care of me when I had to be there alone due to COVID.  so impressed with NHS Fife! Thanks all!

Dear Pregnant and in pain

Firstly, huge congratulations on your pregnancy which I hope from here on in goes smoothly. A groin abscess sounds a horrible painful experience at any time, let alone when pregnant. I am so pleased both you and baby are going to be fine.

How kind of you to take the time to thank the staff who cared for you, all of whom sound like a huge credit to the NHS. To be assessed, treated and discharged within 4 hours is fantastic. Well done to the staff within the Victoria Hospital for putting you at ease especially as you had to be alone due to the COVID-19 restrictions.

I see your journey started with a call to NHS 24 and it looks as though we were clearly concerned enough to refer you on for face to face assessment. It's great for our staff to see stories such as yours as we don't often get to hear what happens to patients following a call to our service. If you wish to share any further detail about our management of your call, then it would be great to hear directly from you. You can contact me at patient.experience@nhs24.scot.nhs.uk

Good luck with the remainder of your pregnancy.

With kind regards

Shona

Dear Pregnant and in pain,

Congratulations on your pregnancy and I’m so glad you are feeling better now. That whole experience must have been very frightening for you so I am heartened to hear you received excellent treatment to get you the right care at the right time..

I’d like to join my colleagues in saying thank you for posting such lovely feedback to all of the staff involved in your journey from NHS24 to the GP at the Out of Hours and beyond. Your feedback is very much appreciated and I will ensure it is passed on.

Take care and the best of luck with the remainder of your pregnancy

Olivia.
