"Long covid"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / General Medicine (Wards 5 & 8) University Hospital Wishaw / Radiology University Hospital Wishaw / Respiratory Medicine (Ward 7)

(as a service user),

After testing positive for covid in September and experiencing initial mild symptoms I got gradually worse. Went to out of hours, spitting blood and was told I had a pulled muscle. Contacted GP who started me   on antibiotics, after five days of no improvement I asked to go to hospital.

Within thirty minutes of arriving I was told by dr she thought I had a blood clot in my lung. I had a ct scan a few hours later which confirmed the initial diagnosis and identifying multiple blood clots, pulmonary embolism and pleural fluid sacs which were infected. I stayed in wishaw general for fifteen nights, most of the time in ward eight. All staff involved in every aspect of my care worked as part of a team and kept me safe. The ward was immaculate and staff friendly and efficient.

Dear Covid sufferer

Thank you very much for sharing your experience on Care Opinion. I'm sorry to hear that you contracted covid-19 in September, which resulted in you having to attend the out of hours service.

I note that following a short period on antibiotics your condition didn't improve which meant you were then admitted to University Hospital Wishaw. I'm pleased to read that upon admission you underwent various diagnostic tests and received a quick diagnosis and were then admitted to Ward 8. Its great to hear that during your admission you were delighted with all aspects of care and treatment, as well as praising the staff for their commitment to caring for you. It is always nice to get positive feedback and I will ensure this will be shared with the team, who will be delighted to read your comments.

Thank you once again and best wishes for your recuperation.

Lesley
