"I did not want a coil"

About: Borders General Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I went for an outpatient appointment due to lengthy bleeding.   I met a gynaecologist who couldn't use the word "vagina" but instead used the term "front passage" which I haven't heard since my mother's day.

At the start of the consult I informed them I did not want a coil - I've been down that road and it was disastrous.   However, the consultant proceeded both before and after the examination, to bully me about having a coil fitted.   I don't know if it was my stubbornness or just plain old unprofessionalism, but the physical examination left me traumatised.   And yet, even afterwards, they kept pushing the coil.   They would not take no for an answer.   Even though there are alternatives to the coil.

I've checked and there is no clinical guidance which mandates for a coil.   I complained to the complaints procedure about my treatment and I got a lovely person, however, they are obviously being blocked from getting an answer to my complaint.   It's been 6 weeks now, and still nothing.   I'm suffering PTSD type flashbacks and my GP is referring me for counselling, however, the wait for that could be long enough.

Meantime I feel as though no one is listening, no one is taking me seriously and no one in the local NHS gives a damn.

I'm sorry to hear about this.

As you are in touch with the complaints department already, we'll be looking into what happened in conjunction with them, and will get abck to you as soon as we can.
