I had an x-ray this morning ['Radiology' isn't offered in the list of Departments]
I was seen promptly, at the correct time. The delightful radiologist showed interest in my injury, which was a tiny fragment of a Blackthorn thorn, deeply lodged in the centre of my thumb joint. Like most health professionals, she didn't know about the dangers of Blackthorn and was keen to learn. I'd had a delay in achieving an x-ray, as both the Minor Injuries nurse and a GP didn't understand the urgency of my request for an x-ray:
'Blackthorn (Prunus spinosus), a member of Rosacea family is well known for causing infections and tissue reactions of synovial structures.' The radiologist agreed that I would need microsurgery to remove the thorn fragment and that I should contact my GP again.
