"Mental Health Care"

About: Borders Community Services / East/West Community Mental Health Team

(as the patient),

I was Diagnosed with a mental illness at the age of 20 but started showing symptoms at the age of 18 and I am now 43 it was very upsetting for me to be diagnosed with this illness. I remember it clearly. I have been treated for this condition with anti-psychotic medications. I have nothing bad to say about the mental health services here in the Scottish Borders. The Doctors and Nurses are all very professional people and caring individuals. Since being diagnosed with a mental illness I have worked, studied, and had a child 👶🏼 so although I have a condition I have to take medicine for I am actually also very fortunate.

Thank you for taking the time to give feedback on your positive experience of NHS Borders Mental Health services. Receiving a diagnosis of a mental illness which will require long term treatment is always difficult, particularly at a young age. It sounds like you have gone on to achieve some major goals in life. I am glad you have found staff professional and caring. I am sure hearing about your experience will be encouraging to others on their own recovery journey. Very best wishes for your future.
