"Poor People Skills For An Intimate Examination"

About: Hanwell Health Centre (Naish)

I had a breast screening appointment today and although the clinic was very convenient and felt safe under the current COVID climate, I was a little disappointed at the manner of the 2 members of staff who dealt with my appointment.

They were very cold and matter of fact in what was an intimate screening process.

They first asked me to confirm my details including date of birth in the reception without asking if I would be ok to answer these questions there.I would like to add there were no other patients there but it was just a little inappropriate.

The technician that performed the screening asked me to undress in the screening room instead of the changing room .She just moved me around to get the right angles for the x-ray without speaking and when I winced as the equipment pressed hard on my breast, she didn't say anything.

When it was completed , she just said right you are done and will get your results in 2 weeks,

Very very poor and almost rude manner.

I had a much better experience at Ealing Hospital where the technician was extremely respectful and understanding at how awkward it is to stand naked in front of a complete stranger. She had dimmed the lights in the screening room and said I could keep my shirt on until she was ready. She also told me what she was going to do before she touched me and was as gentle as she could be.

I don't think any of the above comments are impacted by COVID , the 2 members of staff were just insensitive to the situation and a little disrespectful.
