"Poor experience of being induced and giving birth"

About: King's College Hospital (Denmark Hill) / Maternity

(as the patient),

I have been meaning to provide feedback. I wanted to do an official complaint but having a health condition and a baby who is now a toddler I just haven't had the time or energy.

Antenatal care was good and had no issues there. My birth experience was terrible in so many ways. I can't fault the team for the actual birth but the before and aftercare really failed me.

The facilities are terrible, cramped and dirty. I was induced in a tiny cubicle and could barely get out of bed it was so cramped. Everyone is on top of each other. Was only moved to a room when I was quite late on in the labour.

The absolute worst was the after care. It was filthy dirty and not much cleaning was going on. Staff did not listen to me at all or take notice of my wishes. Hospitality staff were so rude.

I had to have a catheter during birth and it was not checked, I was not given any info about it and it became disconnected. I had a spinal and couldn't feel anything at 1st so didn't notice and was sat in my own urine for hours. When someone finally checked they were irritated and directed this at me. This healthcare assistant quietly dealt with it and did not include any of the info in the handover. I had a severe tear so this put me at risk of infection.

I also have a serious health condition and was at Kings to get extra care than usual. There was no communication and I did not feel part or involved with my care. I will not be using Kings again for my 2nd even though that is where my specialist team for my condition  is based.
