"Pacemaker"

About: Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Cardiology & Coronary Care Unit Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as the patient),

I was diagnosed with complete heart block. I felt scared, breathless & lethargic.

The ambulance paramedics were fantastic and took great care of me and kept me feeling reassured that I would be ok.

The Nurses, Doctors, students & all other staff in the CCU were truly wonderful.

The level of care I received was amazing .

Lead Nurse Alison and her staff team took great care of me when I needed it. They always made sure I was doing well &  reassured me at all times.

I especially want to thank Lead Nurse Alison, Mel on night shift, students  Katie and in particular Sophie who was truly wonderful and I wish her well in her new role, and Pauline who seemed to be everywhere with her cheery attitude & humour.

I had my pacemaker implanted by Mr Sidhu and his team who were absolutely fantastic and talked to me through the whole procedure.  I can’t thank them enough .

Thank you so much to all of the staff in the CCU at ERI

Dear K121

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your feedback with us here on CareOpinion. I am so sorry to read that you suffered a complete heart block, that must have been terrifying. I hope that you are feeling much better now?

I am really pleased however to read that the care you have received from start to finish has been of such a high standard. From our crew to Alison and her team who all sound great! Being kept assured, whilst being given an honest account of whats happened and what is going to happen makes such a difference. If you would like me to pass on your comments to the crews I would be more than happy to do so. In order to locate the crew I would just need a few more details (Your name and the date/time and location that the ambulance attended you). You can email these details to sas.feedback@nhs.scot. If you wouldn't mind also making reference to your CareOpinion username if you decide to do that I would be very grateful as I am about to go on holiday and it is unlikely it will be me that picks up the email. That way the team can easily link it to this story.

Thanks again and I hope that you make a full recovery with your new pacemaker soon!

Alan

Dear K121,

Thank you so much for posting this and sharing your experience with us. As you have described this is a very frightening thing to go through and I am pleased to hear of the positive outcome. It is very encouraging for our team to receive this kind of feedback which underlines to us the importance of both physical and psychological care. We understand how vulnerable patients can feel having been brought to CCU in an emergency situation and I am please to hear that you felt both reassured and supported.

Alison, Mel and Pauline have many years of experience in cardiology whereas Katie and Sophie are just beginning their nursing careers. It is especially good to hear of the consistency of care from both senior and junior staff and they are all very appreciative that you have taken the time to provide this positive feedback

The care you describe is what we strive to deliver every day to every patient so your comments are valued and appreciated by the whole team.

I hope that you have continued to make a full recovery after your pacemaker insertion and may I on behalf of the team send you our very best wishes.

Chrisanna
