"Our Mum"

About: Wishaw Locality Support Service (Disability) / Community support (65+) Wishaw Locality Support Service (Disability) / Social work services (65+)

(as a relative),

Our Mum is 95 and has been living alone for the last 27 years.   Mum is practically  blind now and we had seen much deterioration in how she was managing around the house.   We contacted Wishaw Social Services and they came to access my Mum.

Fiona was the OT from the Wishaw Rehab team, she was so lovely with our Mum who did not want strangers in her house and was not happy that we had involved Social Services in her life.   Fiona laid all her worried to rest and she saw what we saw.   It was agreed there was a need for a stairlift and a wetroom for Mum as she really struggled to get in and out of the shower cubicle.   Fiona said she would come back two days later with a trolley and walking stick for Mum to try ( stick Mum was not happy lol).   Fiona true to her word did this and Mum loves the Trolley.

Unfortunately Mum ended up in hospital, Fiona kept in contact with us at every stage, she visited as soon as Mum was home organised commodes as Lift not ready yet and Mum could not manage the stairs.   Hugh and his team along with Alan from handicare chased the production of the lift and soon they were here fitting it for Mum. Derek came out and assessed for the wetroom , with Fiona advising what was needed, Derek made the paperwork painless for us and his team in the office were always helpful to us even going back in and opening the office to accept the paperwork when I got held up thank you ( you know who you are).

We opted for Dream Home Improvements who were superb and came when they said they would and did everything they said they would and more.   they cleaned up after themselves and made a fabulous job of it.   When the door was an issue it was for them never for us they sorted it and told us how they were going to.   It is gorgeous and Mum can move around with her walker now in there.  They fitted extra grab rails for Mum first class service.

Clare we cant forget you as you helped us when Mum was too weak to move in the bed herself and showed us how to get around the issues, sorting caps for Mums walker so it could slide along and showing us how to prop her up thank you. Pauline from Wishaw Home Support team was fantastic helping us to get carers in even when she was down so many staff, thank you so much. The carers what can we say each and every one is nicer than the other thank you for being so kind to our Mum and treating her with such respect. In conclusion the people in Lanarkshire should know they have one of the best joined up social Care systems we have ever seen and we cannot thank you all enough please keep up the good work.

We hope this is shared with each and everyone of the people who support our Mum

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts

Dear Luludog

Thank you very much for your comments, and I wish to assure you that this has been forwarded on to all of the staff members and services you have mentioned. Wonderful feedback such as this is very gratefully received, even more so during this challenging period, and we very much appreciate your kindness in taking the time to write this. We continually strive to maintain high standards of service, and receiving this feedback has had a very positive effect on staff morale.

I do hope the changes that were made to your mum's home make a significant difference to her level of independence and quality of life, and I wish you all the very best for the future.
