My labour itself went perfectly and no problems, however once my baby was born we soon realised the placenta was stuck to my uterine wall. I started to bleed which I was told was normal, not to panic and I was going to theatre as it’s just standard to get the placenta completely removed as it can cause heavy bleeding.
Not long after this I could feel the blood getting heavier and it became a little more urgent to get me to theatre. My partner and I at this point were scared and crying, but the midwives were just amazing and got me to theatre pretty fast. I then lost more blood on my way which resulted in my iron levels dropping and needing a blood transfusion the following day.
Not only they did they deliver my baby safely, but they also saved my life, gave my partner lots of support by ensuring he wasn’t on his own, reassured him continuously. They ensured my baby was fed from me while I was drowsy from the GA and they each came to see me and check in on me the following day. They were amazing and we really can’t thank them enough.
Alexa, Lesley and Melissa who all helped with the labour and getting me to theatre on time and Melissa who helped look after my baby through the nights, thank you. Christina, who was also looking after me during my stay and the after care with the home visits was also amazing. Thank you so much to everyone else on the maternity ward and ward 16.
