"Triage unit maternity hospital"

About: Aberdeen Maternity Hospital / Obstetrics (Maternity care)

(as a service user),

I was told by my midwife at a routine doctors appointment in the morning I was in early labour but didn't think anything of it until later on my mum said I needed to go in as my contractions were close together. I was told to go to triage for 6pm when I got there I was bent over in pain in the corridor while a nurse walked back and fore saying to their colleagues why is she here, we have nowhere to put her.

They eventually put me in a room and 5 minutes after this I felt like something was happening so they came back and examined me. To their surprise I was already 10cm and was rushed to the labour ward. This nurse made me feel like I shouldn't have been there, like I wasn't far enough along and I was probably another mother-to-be that was in too early. This was not a good first experience for a first time mum that had no idea of what happens.

Dear Ohana247,

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback and congratulations on the birth of your baby.

Please accept my apologies that you were made to feel that you shouldn't have been there. This is certainly not the experience that we want any of our mums to have.

Your feedback will be shared with Triage and the Senior Charge Midwife will use this to help our staff understand that comments such as "why is she here" can be really hurtful and make you feel that you didn't matter or you were wasting time.

May I wish you and your family all the best for the future.

Liz
