"Wonderful people and service"

About: Barlborough NHS Treatment Centre

I recently had a total hip replacement successfully completed at Barlborough.

Unfortunately like thousands of other people, I had to suffer a significant wait due to the current pandemic.

The hospital was great and kept me updated with the situation on a monthly basis with current information on how their services were being divided between various hospital trusts and reassurances that they were doing everything possible to work through the backlog of patients. Although this didn't alleviate the pain it did help with the mental anxiety that I am sure that everyone in a similar position was having to endure (and many still are).

From an update at the beginning of September it looked like I would be going in for the procedure mid Jan. 2021 which would be circa. 46 weeks from the day the surgeon confirmed I needed a new hip and I had my pre-op.

Obviously I was somewhat distraught but at least I could see the light at the end of the tunnel.

At the beginning of October I was surprised to

be called in for another pre-op and was told that this would be valid until February 7th. To my greater surprise I received a phone call from the hospital on the 19th October confirming my operation date would be 29th October.

I was so shocked I could not believe it and even when I received the letter the following day I struggled to take it in. I was so happy it felt like I'd won the lottery. When I came back down to earth I figured that it must have been the result of a cancellation to which I was massively grateful.

After a negative Covid 19 result I attended the hospital on 29/10, everything went like clockwork and I was discharged the same day. I was so elated after the op' I could have kissed the surgeons feet! Every single one of the staff were absolutely fantastic. They were cheerful, friendly, attentive, informative, efficient and above all gave a faultless level care. I got the impression that they loved what they were doing and were happy in their place of work.

I received a phone call 2 days after the op' to ask I was getting on which I thought was very nice of them and inkeeping with what I perceived of them.

A week on from the op' I am recovering well and following the exercise and medication programme as instructed. Already I am in a great deal less pain than before I underwent the procedure. I cannot truly express my gratitude enough to the team at Barlborough. They effectively restarted my life and I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone.
