"anticoagulation service GG&CHB"

About: Glasgow Community Services

(as the patient),

As we are in the midst of Covid 19 and I have been using this excellent service for seven years, Thanks is due.

Thanks to the appointments office for re-arranging appointments when they clash with other hospital appointments.  Special thanks to the superb nurses who seem to be neglected and unsung heroines and hero's. Why are they not valued as other NHS staff?
They see  many patients a day in clinics and in the patients own home - including those know to be Covid +ve - puting themselves in danger of infection and in doing so all the other patients and their families.
Why have none of them been tested for Covid?  I was amazed to discover this obvious anomaly?

The chain of command of this service needs to have this facility made available at least once a week - but I do recognise that it wont stop the nurses from becoming infected but will at least allow them to be in isolation and not infecting others at the earliest possible stage.

They are dealing with very vulnerable patients some of whom thankfully recognise this and the nurses have changed their practice to keep these people safe and where requested to do so have performed the test via an open window because the patients was scared to let them into their home.

Please let me know what will be done to increase the safety of these nurses.

Dear Rtd Nurse

Thank you for your very positive comments about the service provided by Anticoagulation Team. We will be delighted to share this with the team and I am certain that they will appreciate your feedback.

I’d like to reassure you that all of our staff, including the Anti-coagulation team, are closely following the national guidelines regarding personal protective equipment and infection control as we respond to COVID-19. The safety of patients and staff is paramount to us.

With regards to testing, all NHS staff throughout Scotland are tested in accordance with the current guidance from the Chief Medical Officer. We have rapid testing for NHSGGC staff and this includes testing for those who have symptoms, as well as those who have been identified as close contacts of positive individuals. We also test asymptomatic key healthcare workers in oncology and haemato-oncology in wards and day patient areas including radiotherapy; staff in wards caring for people over 65 years of age where the length of stay for the area is over three months, and wards within mental health services where the anticipated length of stay is also over three months.

Kind Regards

Elaine Burt
