"Mum being taken to emergency department"

About: Isle of Wight Ambulance Service St Mary's Hospital (Newport)

(as a relative),

mum was taken to st Mary's by ambulance at around 4pm. She had been bleeding profusely from her stoma. The paramedics were brilliant dealing with all the blood and feaces it looked like a crimes scene when I arrived. It was all extremely distressing not only for mum but my father as well.

I rang the ed department at 5. 30 for my father who by now was thinking the worst to be told they were just assessing her. I rang again at 7. 30 and was initially told they couldn't tell me anything over the phone! I explained the situation and eventually someone else came onto phone but no one gave their names or even their title. This person went to talk to mum apparently and came back giving me a password I was to use when they had transferred her to the ward but still not giving any real information.

Again at 8. 45 was told the same thing. We have now had no information for over 4 hours and the only reason we Know she is alive is that they said she was waiting for a bed! Her husband ( my father) of over 50 years is beside himself. The anxiety and distress caused is unnecessary. We understand why we can't be there but to keep us in the dark is inhumane. If they can set up a password for the ward why can't that system be used by ed.
