"My CBT sessions"

About: Inclusion Thurrock (Talking Therapies)

(as the patient),

I wasnt in a good place at start of sessions felt very alone. Didnt know where to turn for help. Then I met Rebecca who put me at ease very quickly made me feel like I was worth caring about, worth the trouble. She helped with my thoughts and feelings, sorting them out. I didnt know there was other ways of thinking after years of low self esteem. I was shocked how quickly she could know me so well after just weeks. She was straight talking which I appreciated and helped me big time. Rebecca suggested books to read which im enjoying very much and finding them very helpful. She taught me to be kind to myself, which came hard after years of beating myself up. Now im on the up, feeling so much better and definitely stronger. I ve finished my sessions which felt scary but feel I ve got the tools now to face my fears, so im so thankful to her and centre and would highly recommend anyone to get help with this service Thank You again Rebecca.

Dear Ria,

Thank you for sharing these very honest, real experiences. It is common for us to feel alone and unsure of who to turn to when we feel low, especially if we have been feeling this way for a long time and I understand that you had been experiencing low self-esteem for many years. I would firstly like to acknowledge the bravery that it must have taken to reach out for support. I am so pleased to hear that you met Rebecca and that you both created such a strong bond after just a few weeks. Sometimes, just feeling comfortable with your therapist is the first step in your journey to recovery.

It is lovely to hear that not only did you learn from your sessions, but you extended that learning to reading the books that Rebecca suggested to you. Drawing upon multiple resources like this can help us when things feel tough. They can help us build up our therapy toolkit to use in our every day lives.

I would like to take a moment to acknowledge your comment of "she taught me to be kind to myself." This is such an important message that I am glad you have taken from therapy and are now sharing on here for others to read. Often, we go about our lives being unkind to ourselves or noticing what we dislike or what to change. Instead, taking the time to be gentle, kind and compassionate to ourselves can be so empowering.

Whilst it is incredibly normal to find it scary when sessions finish, just know that you will always have the therapy techniques to draw upon whenever you need support. This is the beauty of CBT, you ultimately become your own therapist and to me, it sounds as though you are doing this already.

It is fantastic to hear you are in a better place now, be proud of how much work you have dedicated to your own well-being.

Thank you once again for sharing your experience with us and Rebecca.

Best wishes for the future,

Jade
