I was admitted to Newham General hospital on 5th July with crippling pains in my right side.
The day nurse was lovely.
The night nurse was a nightmare from hell. I was crying out in pain, this staff member was metres away from my bed and as they walked away I cried out, they came to my bedside and asked abruptly where the pain was (I was in absolute distress by this time). I indicated to my side to where the pain was (it was exactly the same place as it's always been since my admission) They simply asked me "is it?" and then walked away and left me.
After about 20 minutes I realised they were not coming back. Simply did not seem to care. I crawled on the floor on my hands and knees to the bathroom and managed to call the hospital switchboard. I got through to the onsite manager and somehow through the pain I managed to croak what ward I was in and my bed number.
The ward manager came up to the ward with a senior member of staff, this was around midnight. I had not been given any medication and I was already overdue, which is why the pain got so very very bad. I believe if I hadn't called the hospital that nurse would have left me crying out in pain all night till morning.
I was readmitted at a later date but in a different ward. It was night and day!
The nurses there were second to none. They were absolutely lovely caring and professional. Every time I'm in London now I'm so anxious that I'll end up back in that hospital in the first ward.
