"Flu vaccination for elderly person who was shielding"

About: Glasgow Community Services

(as a service user),

My elderly husband is still waiting for his letter for flu vaccination whilst I have an appointment for the end of this week. His need is greater than mine and I would willingly give up my slot and wait for a later one. I wonder what criteria was used to choose  who was in the early vaccination group

Dear Izzy69

I am sorry to hear that your husband has not received his letter regarding his Flu vaccination. I understand that people aged 65 and over, were to receive a letter with an allocated appointment and that these would be sent in batches by age group by the end of October. If your husband if over 65 can I suggest he contacts the Flu Line on 0141 201 4180 for an update. You can also find additional information at:

I hope this helps

Nicole

Update posted by Izzy69 (a service user)

My husband is 87 with respiratory and health problems and I feel should have received a letter by now. I wonder what the criteria for sending out letters is, I feel like yet again the shielding have been short changed and basically forgotten!!

The flu line was not in the least helpful.

Dear Izzy69

Please accept our apologies for the way in which the flu vaccination programme has been delivered this year and for any distress and anxiety that has been caused. We would like to reassure you that all remaining letters to people aged 65 and over have now been sent and everyone in that group will have an appointment scheduled for them before the end of November. We hope your husband has now received his letter, but if not, please contact the flu vaccination appointments line on 0800 707 6699 and they will book an appointment for him.

The flu vaccination programme has been especially challenging this year, due to the increased number of eligible people and because it is vitally important that we adhere to physical distancing guidelines when administering vaccinations. However, we will make sure that we learn the lessons from what has happened this year and put measures in place to avoid these issues being repeated.

Please pass on our apologies to your husband.

Kind Regards

Nicole
