During a recent emergency hospital admission of a family member, information regarding visiting was not conveyed in full. I was not told that I had to make an appointment. I was not told about 'essential visits' which would have applied to this family member. I was not given an information leaflet and indeed the staff including the senior charge nurse were not aware that an information leaflet existed. I obtained the leaflet on NHS A&A website. These information leaflets should be available and visible at the front entrance to wards and waiting areas and there should be posters in corridors, waiting areas and the front entrance detailing visiting during this time. The emergency admission day was taken as a visiting day so I could not bring in the necessary clothing etc that my family member needed the next day.
