Whilst Fife Health Bd - 2 weeks after they created the problem - have increased staffing numbers to try and respond to volume of patients phoning the telephone number to make an appointment for the annual seasonal flu vaccine...those of us with limited mobility, who live alone, are less able to physically access appointments once the Scottish weather deteriorates (funny this happens every Nov onwards) and the day light hours decrease. I am not able to safely drive my car in the dark (due to loss of eyesight in one eye) I am not physically able to manage getting out and about on frosty or even icy paths. So Fife Health Bd might have sufficient vaccines available for its population but when appointments are full for October and one gets offered December appointments - it means an accessibility issue - ability to get from point A to point B where the appointment is scheduled.
In this way, Fife Health Bd has disabled me - NOT enabled my ability to physically access an appointment.
I am part of this backlog...almost 4 weeks and still no return call to offer an appointment...I suspect Fife Health Bd has a "mop up" plan to vaccinate those who cannot get to an appointment; but at what cost? I can phsycially manage independently to access my annual flu vaccine in October in any weather if I use my walking sticks carefully and go slowly but as the wintry stuff arrives I am stuck...so yes, my ability is taken away. This system, created by Fife Health Bd disables me.
