"Family Service"

About: One Recovery Bucks / High Wycombe

(as a service user),

We had counselling regarding some concerns that we have about some close family members and their possible substance abuse. We received a number of one to one counselling sessions through microsoft teams and a number of group sessions, also online.

The counselling that we received was invaluable in helping us to support one family member who has made fantastic progress in stopping their substance abuse, which in turn has  helped to spur them on to deal with other mental health issues, including increased self confidence and the wherewithal to move on to tackle their nicotine habit as well.

In addition to this, the counselling was invaluable to us as a couple to help us to deal with our own thoughts and emotions as we have worked our way through the above difficult process. It has also given us the best tools to move forwards and tackle the concerns that we have with a second family member when the timing is appropriate.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for taking the time to share your experience of using our family service. It is so great to hear that you found the counselling you received invaluable. It's also fantastic to hear that you have been able to support your loved one to make changes to their use and they have started to work on their mental health. It sounds like you have learnt that not everyone is ready to make changes but now you have the tools and skills to offer when the time is right.

Keep focusing on yourself too, I am sure Lucy has stated how important it is that family member impacted by other use do this.

Can I wish you and your family all the best moving forward, keep accessing for support and use your sessions with Lucy and your peers in the online peer support group, remember you are not alone.

Kind Regards.

Tracy
